Hey BIB Fam!
Refresh and Rebalance: Iced Spearmint Tea for the PCOS Girlies
Living with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) presents unique challenges, from hormonal imbalances to managing symptoms like irregular periods, weight loss resistance, acne, and excess hair growth. One natural remedy that has gained popularity for its potential health benefits in managing PCOS symptoms is spearmint tea. Spearmint tea is not only known for its refreshing taste but also its ability to help regulate hormones by decreasing androgens, making it a perfect drink for us PCOS girlies 💅
The Benefits
Hormone Balance: Studies show that spearmint tea may help reduce elevated androgen levels, which are often present in women with PCOS. Lowering these androgens can alleviate symptoms such as hirsutism (excess hair growth) and acne.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Spearmint contains anti-inflammatory compounds that can help reduce inflammation, which is often associated with PCOS.
Digestive Health: Spearmint tea can aid in digestion and relieve digestive discomfort, such as gas and bloating, promoting overall gastrointestinal health
Aden’s Go-To Iced Spearmint Tea Recipe
Making iced spearmint tea at home is simple and refreshing. Here’s a step-by-step guide to making this drink at home, but feel free to make it your own!
Monk fruit, local honey, or sweetener of choice (optional)
Ice cubes (optional)
Lemon slices (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Boil the Water: Boil some water using a traditional teapot, electric kettle, or any method you prefer. Once the water reaches a rolling boil, remove it from heat.
Steep the Tea: Add 2 bags of spearmint tea to your mason jar, then fill the jar to the top with hot water.
Sweeten the Tea (Optional): If you prefer a sweeter tea, add some monk fruit, honey, or your preferred sweetener to the jar and stir until dissolved.
Chill the Tea:Let the tea cool to room temperature, then remove the tea bags. Place the jar in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours. For a quicker chill, you can place the jar in an ice bath.
Serve and Enjoy: Add some ice cubes to the jar, and garnish with lemon slices for an extra burst of flavor if you’d like.
Last note, you can actually make 1-3 batches at a time and have them ready to drink over the course of a few days. We like to make this drink 2-3 times a week to ensure fresh iced sprearmint tea is ready to drink daily.
